Gas shortage: Power shortfall reaches 3,000MW

Summary The electricity shortfall is causing 6 to 9 hours load shedding across the country.

According to the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), the power generation has decreased to 10,836MW due to non provision of gas to 7 IPPs while the demand of the power supply has reached 13,831MW.The power generation by the IPPs has decreased from 6,000 to 5,000MW, while the power shortfall is causing 6 hours load shedding in urban areas and up to 9 hours in the rural areas.According to the Sui Northern Gas authorities, the militants blew up main gas pipeline near Guddu Barrage and Dadu due to which the gas supply was stopped.They said that work was under way for the resumption of gas supply.
