PM directs finance ministry to submit detailed analysis on loans
He says country needs more loans to pay back installments of the previous loans
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday while summoning a report on loans taken by the previous governments, directed the finance ministry to submit a detailed analysis to know where the money was spent.
Presiding over a Cabinet meeting at the PM Office on Thursday, the prime minister expressed concern over the alarming rise in country’s foreign debts from Rs6 to Rs30 trillion in past ten years and said that the government and the people of Pakistan have the right to know where these huge amounts were spent and were these beneficial for the country.
“Where was the money spent, on which projects? Did we build a dam? We need to know as we have to borrow more loan to return the installments,” PM Imran Khan said.
He asked the finance ministry to submit its detailed analysis to the federal cabinet, adding that it would also help create a better understanding about the loans and their impact on national economy.
He said that the country has to obtain more loans to pay back installments of the previous loans.
About the launch of Naya Pakistan Housing Program, Khan said that the entire administrative structure for the project would be completed on priority and it would not only generate economic activity, but also add new entrepreneurs, increase skills of the workers and create employment.
On the other hand, PM Imran Khan also chaired a consultative meeting of the party leadership.
The meeting was attended by Fawad Chaudhry, Faisal Vawda, Naeemul Haque, Iftikhar Durrani, Shibli Fara, Faisal Javed Khan and Usman Dar.
The meeting discussed the performance of the government and other issues and decided to present party’s stance in a comprehensive manner.
The meeting decided to inform the people of the country on facts over government’s decision to approach IMF for bailout package and also expose those who looted the national exchequer.
The prime minister also directed party leaders to highlight the Naya Pakistan Housing project and Green Pakistan project.
