ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The accountability court on Tuesday dispatched a letter to the Supreme Court seeking an extension in the time period to complete the trial pertaining to Al-Azizia and Flagship references after the fifth deadline expired Sunday.

The apex court had given a six-week deadline which commenced on August 26 and ended on October 7. Investigators have already recorded statements of witnesses while cross-examination of the investigation officer needs time to complete.

Originally, the Supreme Court had given six months to wind up the case against Nawaz Sharif and his children but the deadline was first extended for three months, then one month, and then twice for six weeks each.

In today’s proceedings, the court recorded the statement of last prosecution witness Mahboob Alam who said that not a single witness said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif sent money to Hussain Nawaz and Hasaan Nawaz for HME.

Khawaja Harris, the counsel of Nawaz Sharif, while presenting his arguments said that no witness said the PML-N supremo didn’t reveal the money earned from abroad, adding that they had the same stance in the Supreme Court.

The Investigation Officer told the court that he had not recorded anyone’s statement, adding that he didn’t even included Qatari Prince Hammad bin Jasim in the investigation or written a letter.

The accountability court judge Arshad Malik remarked that the question whether Hassan or Hussain Nawaz gave statement in front of the investigation officer or not to which the NAB prosecutor said that how would they record their statement when they didn’t even come to Pakistan.

The counsel of Nawaz Sharif couldn’t complete his arguments today and will continue his arguments on Mahboob Alam on Wednesday.
