'Foolproof' security arrangements as nation observes Ashura

LaHORE (Dunya News) -  Youm-e-Ashura  is being observed today (Friday) across the country with solemnity to pay honor to Imam Hussain (R.A) and others martyrs of Karbala amid stringent security to protect mourners from terrorism.

To ensure foolproof security arrangements, Pillion-riding has been banned in several cities across the country while citizens are also facing partial suspension of Mobile service in different cities due to security reasons.

Police and Pakistan Rangers personnel have also been deployed near Imambargahs across the country to avoid any unpleasant situation while Army would be kept on the standby for enhanced security

However, Controls rooms have been set up while CCTV cameras have also been installed on the routes of processions to avoid any untoward incident

The main Ashura procession in Lahore will begin from Imambargah Pando Street, Islampura while in Karachi it will start from Nishtar Park and in Islamabad from Sector G-6-II Imambargah.

Earlier, Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi visited control room of Safe City Project and reviewed security arrangements made in connection with Muharram-ul-Haram.

On the occasion, Inspector General of Police Islamabad briefed the minister about the foolproof security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful passage of Ashura.

The IGP informed the minister that in the federal capital 2,586 policemen, Pakistan Rangers and Frontier Constabulary men have been deployed to ensure security for 17 processions.

The minister directed that the working of safe city project should be further improved with induction of more technical staff.

“No one is above the law,” Shehryar Khan Afridi said and directed the IGP to take steps to improve traffic system of Islamabad. The minister also inspected the processions through monitoring system installed in control room.
