KARACHI (Dunya News) – An accountability court in Karachi has on Saturday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader and former federal minister for port and shipping Babar Ghauri over alleged corruption worth billions and illegal use of power.

The reference against Ghauri was filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

As per details acquired, NAB alleged that Ghauri and other accused clandestinely and illegally recruited over 940 persons in the Karachi Port Trust (KPT). The accountability watchdog added Ghauri fled abroad soon after probe was launched against him.

The NAB—in the reference—further alleged that KPT suffered a loss of Rs2.88 bln due to illegal recruitments.

Upon hearing the arguments, the accountability court directed authorities concerned to produce Ghauri and other accused on September 22.

Later, the hearing was adjourned.
