Three policemen martyred, one terrorist killed in attack on Gilgit checkpost

The attack occurred on a police checkpost in Karagah Nullah area of Gilgit.

GILGIT (Dunya News) – At least three policemen were martyred while one terrorist was killed during an attack on check post in Gilgit’s Karah Nullah area on Saturday.

Police and rescue teams were dispatched to the crime scene soon after the attack. Two injured policeman were shifted to district headquarter hospital for medical treatment.

GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq paid tribute to the martyred personnel. He told that security has been put on high alert across the province.

There will be no compromise on the government’s writ, he added.

Previously on August 3rd, unidentified assailants set ablaze at least 12 girls’ schools in Gilgit-Baltistan’s district and fled, causing panic among residents.

A search operation was carried out by security forces later, during which one terrorist was killed while a policeman embraced martyrdom. Police has also arrested 32 suspects during the crackdown and registered cases against them

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice of the mishap and summoned report from GB government and interior secretary.

On the other hand, interim Prime Minister Justice (retired) Nasirul Mulk also strongly condemned the incident and directed to bring the perpetrators to justice. The premier also sought report of the incident from authorities concerned.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan also condemned the attack on schools and promised that his party will implement its agenda to ensure the provision of quality education across the country.

The PTI chief said that girls’ education is an integral part of the upcoming government’s policies.
