Summary President Asif Ali Zardari remitted the remaining jail sentence of Indian convict Gopal Das.
Gopal was detained in Pakistani jail for the past 27 years, on humanitarian grounds. President’s spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that the remission was granted on the advice of the Prime Minister to honour the appeal of the Supreme Court of India to the government of Pakistan.He said that, the convicted prisoner Gopal Das was sentenced to life imprisonment in June 1987 and was set to be released by the end of this year under the law.
