ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A 34-member committee formed to address water crisis in Pakistan has decided to expedite the construction of water reservoirs.

The committee, which held its first meeting on Thursday, expressed concern over the prevailing water crisis across the country.

“Pakistan is inching towards a serious crisis as water scarcity has reached an alarming level,” Wapda Chairman Lt Gen (retired) Muzammil Hussain told media after the meeting.

“PPRA laws will be relaxed as they act as hindrance in the provision of water projects,”he added.

Muzammil said construction on Diamer-Bahsha and Mohmand dams will begin next year. “Diamer-Bhasha will take approximately nine whereas Mohmand will take four to five years to complete,” he added.
