Captain (r) Safdar's name included in blacklist

NAB sources said that Capt (retd) Mohammad Safdar may flee the country.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Name of ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar on Saturday has been included in blacklist after Avenfield reference verdict.

According to details, the step was taken after interior ministry recommended to put names of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar on Exit Control List (ECL).

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) sources said that Capt (retd) Mohammad Safdar may flee the country however, he will be detained as soon as his arrest warrants are received.

Earlier, NAB had asked interior ministry on February 11 and then again on June 11 to put names of Sharif family on ECL. NAB’s both requests were turned down and Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz left the country and they are still in London.

On July 6, accountability court jailed former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar for 10, 7 and 1 year respectively.

Announcing verdict judge, Muhammad Bashir ruled that the Avenfield apartments of the Sharif family shall be seized by the federal government.

The judge while awarding 10 years imprisonment to Nawaz Sharif also imposed an eight million pound (Rs1.2billion) fine, while a fine of two million pound (Rs322 million) has been imposed on his daughter Maryam Nawaz .

The court also issued permanent arrest warrants of ex-PM’s sons Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz.
