Summary Implementation of Article 9 of the constitution was necessary to strengthen democracy

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Minister of Defense Khurram Dastgir Khan on Monday said that Pakistan has re-emerged as a strong and stable country in an unstable region.

Addressing an International Conference in Islamabad on Monday, he said that Pakistan has rendered matchless sacrifices to eliminate menace of terror.

He said that Pakistan had emerged in the past four years from an extremely difficult period of terrorism and energy shortages.

The minister further saluted the courage of Pakistani journalists who continued working in very difficult circumstances in the recent years and exercised the freedom of speech and expression at a time when Pakistan was suffering from terrorism and violent extremism.

Dastagir went on to say implementation of Article 9 of the constitution was necessary to strengthen democracy, adding that the incumbent government had found Pakistan drowning in blood and darkness. "It was a difficult job to maintain the country’s precious democracy." 

“The government has contained energy crisis, while the economy has also improved,” he said and added second government has completed its tenure.

The minister said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is an important project and it would strengthen Pakistan’s relations with other countries.
