(Dunya News) – Turning an overflow channel into a fish farm, a local of the Pekan village near Kallar Syedan has come up with an innovative project that has also become a source of livelihood for several villagers.

Few years back, Shahid Afzal came up with the idea of turning a water channel into a fish farm. This, he achieved by building a small embankment on the channel to stop the flow of water where he later began farming fish.

“This piece of land was going to waste so we constructed a dam,” said Afzal while talking about his fish farm. “We have been working on this farm for several years now and it has proved very profitable for us,” he said.

Using a minor investment, Afzal turned his unique fish farming project into a source of livelihood for several people in his village. The feed used for the fish is also produced through traditional means.

One of the other benefits of this 1,000 feet long artificial farm is that the construction of the bank for the fish farm has put an end to erosion of the nearby fertile land of the village due to the overflow channel.
