SC to announce verdict in disqualification duration case

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court (SC) will announce judgement in case related to duration of disqualification of politicians under Article 62(1)(f) of the constitution today (Friday).

The top court in its first ruling had disqualified Nawaz Sharif as president of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen was disqualified under Articles 62 of the constitution.

The apex court had elaborated that a person disqualified under Article 62, 63 of the Constitution cannot head the party. Furthermore, as a result of the verdict, all decisions taken by Nawaz as PML-N’s president stood null and void.

The verdict will be announced at 11am today.

On February 14, the apex court had reserved its verdict in the case regarding duration for the disqualification of the members of the Parliament incurred under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution.

The hearing of the case was held by a five-member bench of the apex court - headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah.
