Bad weather: Nawaz, Maryam fail to appear in accountability court

The judge granted them exemption to the accused from the proceedings.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Accountability court on Thursday has granted exemption to ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz for one-day as they fail to reach Islamabad due to bad weather.

During the hearing headed by Justice Mohammad Bashir, Defence lawyer Khawaja Harris told the court about the absence of his clients over which, the judge granted them exemption from the proceedings.

However, son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif, Captain (r) Safdar appeared in the court.

Defence lawyer Khawaja Harris asked head of Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia that who had changed the salary of Nawaz Sharif from the documents over which, JIT head said that he doesn’t know, adding that the actual amount was 1lac dirham.

He said that Nawaz’s contract was not made in front of him and that the statement of the person who stamped the papers was also not recorded.

Khawaja Harris argued the report stated that two JIT members came to receive documents of FZE Company over which Zia said that it was mentioned in paragraph 7 of Volume 1.

Earlier, Nawaz had demanded live coverage of the court proceedings so that the people may know the reality.“Those who do not know me should know that I am not the one who would retreat,” he said and added he would fight injustices against him. “I will not desist from principles,” he added.

Nawaz went on to say that he has served the country as much as he could for 30 years. “We have made Pakistan a nuclear state, eradicated loadshedding and construted roads,” he added.

The PML-N leader said that Pakistan is the property of 22 billion people, adding that they cannot allow anyone’s monoply. “Neither we will let anyone do injustice with Pakistan nor we would allow anyone to trample the vote,” he added.
