SC adjourns Nehal Hashmi's contempt case hearing till 1pm

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of contempt of court case against former PML-N senator Nehal Hashmi’s till 1pm.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case in which Hashmi is likely to be indicted.

Senior lawyer Rasheed A. Rizvi appeared before the court over summon.

“President of Supreme Court Bar Association Kaleem Khurshid is a Pir of his area and ours also. Let’s see what does he recommends,” remarked the CJP.

“It would be better to hear the case at 1pm. The vice-chairman of Pakistan Bar Council has also been summoned. Till then, lawmaker Ahsan Bhawan will also arrive in the court,” suggested Rasheed A. Rizvi.

The court while giving approval asked to brief the court about the action plan after consultation.

On the previous hearing, the Supreme Court sought the help of senior lawyers in the indictment of Nehal Hashmi.

The PML-N loyalist was issued a second contempt of court notice from the Supreme Court and a first information report (FIR) was filed against him over his remarks against the judiciary on February 28, the day he was released from Adiala jail.

His one-month imprisonment was announced by the SC on February 1 over his outburst on May 28, 2017 in which he had threatened the JIT members and judges for probing against the Sharif family in Panama Papers case.

Hashmi was awarded a fine worth Rs 50,000 and sentenced one-month prison time in the first contempt of court case.
