Controversial verdict of July 28 has put question mark on judiciary: Captain Safdar
Hope that the nation continues to respect government institutions after this case, Safdar said.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar on Thursday lashed out at Wajid Zia, former head of the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT), for his probe in the case.
Talking to media, Safdar said that the controversial decision of July 28 that ousted Nawaz Sharif as PM of Pakistan has put question mark on judiciary. Hope that the nation continues to respect government institutions after this case, he added.
Earlier today, Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar appeared in accountability court as National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference pertaining to London flats entered final phase.
During the hearing headed by Justice Mohamamd Bashir, Nawaz Sharif was permitted to leave due to his bad health while prosecution witness Wajid Zia, former head of the Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT), will record his statement in the presence of Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar.
On Wednesday, Captain (r) Safdar called for ending pointless and vindictive cases against PML-N leaders and requested all institutions to observe jursidictions as defined by the constitution of Pakistan.
He said that the case is not petty so as to be decided in six or seven weeks. “It is an important case as credibility of judiciary and political leaders depend on it.”
Safdar said that PTI members sold their conscience and suggested JIT head Wajid Zia’s name to investigate. “Wajid Zia has great skills in such matters. He cannot answer questions about the report he has prepared. He cannot even write a simple application.”
