ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A 27-year-old woman moved Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday seeking sex reassignment surgery.
The petitioner told court that she experienced gender dysphoria at the age of 13 and consulted with doctors who recommended her the sex reassignment surgery.
She reasoned that she has been in mental distress since the recommendation.
The petitioner further noted that she has arranged expenses for the surgery, adding that she may face legal hurdles in changing her name after the sex change.
The 27-year-old sought court orders to all institutions for the gender change.
The petitioner also attached medical report with the application.
The court will hear the case on March 8.
In 2008, Justice Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon of the Lahore High Court (LHC) had allowed a girl from Faisalabad to undergo gender reassignment (sex change) surgery.
