Senate elections 2018: PMLN backed candidates gain highest seats

(Dunya News) – Pakistan’s senate elections were dominated by the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) that led the race by bagging 15 seats.
PMLN backed contestants won eleven seats in Punjab, two seats each from Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, making the party lead the senate elections with now the party, and party-backed members, coming to a figure of 33 in the Senate.
Pakistan Peoples Party bagged 12 seats, making it the second most dominating party in the Senate. From Sindh, PPP won 10 seats and 2 seats from KP. PPP’s members now hold 22 seats in the Senate.
Twelve seats went to independent candidates. Two candidates of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and National Party each, one candidate each from the MQM, Jamaat-i-Islami and PML-F were successful.
