(Dunya News) - Following recent incidents of child abuse, a special committee of the National Assembly held a meeting to discuss the prevention of pornographic content, including child abuse and child pornography, on the internet.
Chaired by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyyum Aurangzeb, the committee directed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to explain whether ‘dark web’ really exists and to also verify the presence of any videos of children subjected to abuse in Pakistan.
The committee also inquired about the steps taken to block such content from the internet in accordance with the cybercrime law.
Human Rights Commission, law ministry and police officials in the meeting explained that Pakistan’s penal codes have been amended with following the insertion of Articles 292 A , 292 B and 292 C, which include child pornography. Furthermore, the committee was informed that its implementation is in process.
