Polling time ends for MQMP's intra-party elections, extended by one hour

The elections today are to elect a fresh convener and deputy conveners among others.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Polling for intra-party elections of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQMP) has ended at 06:00pm on Sunday to elect fresh appointments including convener of the political organisation however another hour was granted to the voters.

MQMP chief Dr Farooq Sattar had announced to hold intra-party polls earlier this month after he dissolved coordination committee of the political front following a rift among leaders.




The elections today are to elect a fresh convener as Dr Sattar was sacked as the convener by the committee amidst the clashes within the organisation. Members of the coordination committee and central executive committee are to be elected today in addition to a convener, senior deputy convener and deputy conveners.

Dr Sattar has branded the polls today a referendum and said in a statement today that it is unlawful for a coordination committee that stands dissolved to dissolve Hyderabad zone of the political party.

He said that ‘doors are open’ after the elections for the party leaders who joined forces with Bahadurabad faction. Dr Sattar asserted that he wishes to save the organisation from division.

On the other hand, Kamran Tessori has said that ‘minus-one formula’ and corruption on part of some politicians led them to oppose Dr Sattar and PIB Colony group over Senate elections ticket issue.

He claimed that Dr Sattar is being punished for raising pro-Pakistan slogans.

Tessori warned that members of the ‘former’ coordination committee could have links with London chapter of the political party.
