(Dunya News) – The United Nations has released a report on gender equality according to which girls and women in Pakistan are subjected to underage marriages, deprived of accessibility to education, health and job opportunities.

According to the report that focuses on gender inequality, while discrimination against girls and women is found across the globe, Pakistan is one of those 4 countries where 4.9 million women in the 18 to 49 age bracket are simultaneously deprived of four dimensions of sustainable development. These fields include underage marriages (under the age of 18 years), accessibility to education, ability to make health-related decisions and employment.

Almost 74% of Pakistani women have less than 6 years of education, with Pashtun women being the most deprived in terms of education. Of the poorest households in Sindh, 40% are faced with food insecurity.

Women forced to work owing to poverty are faced with several difficulties, including gender discrimination, less employment opportunities and lower wages.
