Naqeebullah case: Supreme Court orders not to arrest ex-SSP Rao Anwar
The court has also ordered to form a Joint Investigation Team in the case.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan on Tuesday refrained police from arresting former SSP Malir Rao Anwar, who is under scrutiny over his alleged involvement in the extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud.
The suo motu case was being heard by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.
The CJP’s directives came after Rao Anwar wrote a letter to him saying that he was not present at the crime scene.
Anwar while claiming innocence in the case wrote that justice is the right of the oppressed. He has urged the Chief Justice to form an independent JIT in the case.

The court while granting protective bail to Rao Anwar has asked the former SSP to appear in court on Friday. It has also ordered to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in the case.
During the hearing, Sindh Inspector General AD Khawaja, Intelligence Bureau (IB), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) AND Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) submitted their report in the court.
Sindh IG assured the court of tracing Rao Anwar’s location. IB maintained that the location cannot be tracked from WhatsApp.
“It means that no development has yet been made. We give respite to you every time. It seems that we ourselves have to find Anwar. Tell us the way to arrest him,” said the CJP.
Mehsud, a 27-year-old hailing from South Waziristan, was gunned down on January 13 in Shah Latif Town by alleged ‘encounter’ with a police team headed by Rao Anwar, however; preliminary probe suggest that Mehsud was killed in cold blood and had no terror links.
His killing sparked a social media outcry, as his family members rejected claims by authorities that he was a member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban, saying he was an innocent aspiring male model.
