Asma Jahangir's funeral to be held outside Qaddafi Stadium today

Asma Jahangir died at the age of 66 on Sunday.

LAHORE ( Dunya News) – Noted human rights lawyer and social activist Asma Jahangir’s funeral will be held outside Qaddafi Stadium at 02:00pm today.

She passed away at the age of 66 on Sunday.

Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah has written to Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan to direct for a state funeral in honour of the human rights advocate.

Asma Jahangir was shifted to hospital on Sunday but could not survive the cardiac arrest. She was the former president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, former premier Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif, Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan and others expressed condolences over Asma Jahangir’s demise.

Asma Jahangir had won many national as well as international awards including Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders in 1995, Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2010, and various others. She was co-founder of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and also chaired it.

She was elected as SCBA president on October 27, 2010.

Many prominent personalities from judiciary, government officials and politicians visited her residence to express condolences and a huge number of people are expected to attend the funeral ceremony on Tuesday.
