ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar will again appear in accountability court in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references today (Tuesday).
The court has summoned three witnesses of the prosecution to record their statements during today’s hearing. Counsel for the defence will cross-examine the witnesses.
Accountability court has conducted 21 hearings of Flagship Investment Ltd reference, 20 of Evenfield Properties and 24 of Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.
The ousted premier has appeared for the hearings at least 13 times, Maryam Nawaz 15 times while Capt (r) Safdar 16 times.
During the previous hearing headed by Justice Mohammad Bashir, NAB Additional Director Nasir Junejo recorded his statement in Flagship reference over which Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Harris asked him whether he was part of the inquiry against Sharif family in 2017 which he responded with ‘yes’.
Junejo told that Shahbaz Haider provided record of Chaudhry Sugar Mills on August 21, 2017 while investigation officer also recorded his stance in the case on the same day. Responding to a question about any further inquiry in the case, the witness said that no statement was recorded in front of him afterwards.
Meanwhile, Khawaja Harris raised objection over Umar Daraz’s statement, stating that he changes his stance frequently. However, NAB prosecutor and Khawaja Harris also exchanged harsh words twice during the proceeding.
Prosecution witness Afaq Ahmed was unable to record his statement as original record was submitted in Supreme Court (SC).
