(Dunya News) – The high-profile murder case of Shahzaib Khan in December 2012 in Karachi has reached a dramatic new turn with the bail of Shahrukh Jatoi, one of the main accused, by a court in Karachi.

The 2012 murder made headlines across the country as Shahzaib Khan, a university student, was killed in cold blood with several attempts having been made since then by the family of the accused to close the case and silence Shahzaib’s family.

Jatoi, who hails form an influential feudal family, has been released on bail recently following what is being termed as a ‘deal’ between the two families. According to details, the decision is said to have been made under Diyat and Qisas laws, with media reporting that Shahzaib Khan’s family has received money and assets worth Rs. 670 million from the Jatoi family following which the killers, including Shahrukh, have been pardoned.

The civil society has initiated a campaign claiming that the case is being wrapped up by the Jatoi family which is exerting its influence by using money to silence the aggrieved.

Now the civil society has taken up the case and has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court.
