ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Parliamentary leaders in the National Assembly on Wednesday finalized draft Constitutional Amendment Bill for delimitation of constituencies.

They agreed on the draft during a meeting held in Islamabad with Speaker National Assembly in the chair. The meeting was attended by Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Aftab Sherpao, Akram Durrani among other parliamentarians.

While briefing the media, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said the bill will be presented in the National Assembly on Thursday. He asserted that all the parties have agreed on the bill. 

The meeting decided to lessen registration of the voters while augmenting the number of the polling stations, he told.

According to new delimitation of the constituencies, NA’s 272 general seats and 60 reserved seats for women will be retained however; their distribution among the provinces will be altered.

The speaker told that a constituency of NA will comprise of 7,80,000 population. Under this criterion, NA’s general seats from Punjab will be reduced to 141 from 148 and reserved seats for women will be minimized from 35 to 33.

Meanwhile, NA’s general seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be increased from 35 to 39 and reserved seats for women from 8 to 9, he added.

Similarly, the general seats from Balochistan will be swelled from 14 to 16 and reserved seats for women from 3 to 4 while Islamabad’s general seats will also rise from 2 to 3.

Ayaz Sadiq said there will be no change in the overall seats of Sindh, which will remain at seventy-five. Similarly, the number of FATA seats will be unchanged at twelve.
