Chief Census Commissioner said that provinces made decisions about urban and rural boundaries

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Census Commissioner Asif Bajwa on Monday rejected the objections raised about the results of the 6th population census of Pakistan, reported Dunya News.

He said that decisions about urban and rural boundaries were made by provinces. “Things said about the number of transgender community are wrong,” he said. He further elaborated that Karachi’s seven rural areas were included in urban population after 1998 census.

Bajwa said that Rs. 17 billion were spent on this census out of which, 6 billion have been given to the military. Earlier, Mutahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had raised objections about the census results of Karachi.

Provisional results of census released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) show that Karachi’s total population is 14.91 million. This is a 62% increase from the 1998 figure of 9.339 million.
