Rich tributes paid to Dr. Ruth Pfau Pakistan's Mother Teresa

(Web Desk) – Dr. Ruth Pfau, a German-Pakistani nun and a member of the Society of Daughters of the Heart of Mary, who devoted her 50 years of life to fight leprosy in Pakistan, passed away on Thursday.

She was 87 years old. With a trending hashtag of RuthPauf countless people from around the world offered condolences on social media including Pakistani politicians and prominent personalities.

Dr Pfau who was also known as ‘Pakistan’s Mother Theresa’ dedicated her life to the people of Pakistan, and started treating patients suffering from leprosy. Patients from all over Pakistan and even Afghanistan came for their treatment in Karachi’s leprosy center. In recognition of her services to the country, she was awarded Pakistani citizenship in 1988.

She also received Hilal-i-Pakistan award for her work with leprosy patients in 1989.
