LAHORE (Dunya News) – Spokesperson for the Government of Punjab has said on Monday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has overwhelming consensus over Hamza Shehbaz to be the Chief Minister of Punjab.

Malik Ahmed Khan was conversing with analyst Habib Akram and law expert Saad Rasool in programme TezTar5 when he said that CM Shehbaz is not legally required to resign to contest for premiership and the law permits him to choose the seat he wishes to keep once he wins the election.

He said that Hamza Shehbaz has shown 98 percent success result in local body elections and his name would help the party win elections.

While talking about intra-party discussions for fresh chief minister, the spokespersons said that the PML-N has an overwhelming consensus over who former premier Nawaz Sharif would choose to lead the government in Punjab.

He further said that the Hamza has complete consent of the party.

Among potential candidates including law minister Rana Sanaullah, Khan talked about Hamza Shehbaz, son to Punjab CM. He said that Hamza is a leader whose name would get them votes from across the province however, the decision lies with the party leadership.

Lawmakers are to sit on August 1st in National Assembly in a president-summoned session to elect interim premier for a period of 45 days.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former oil minister is PML-N s designate for interim premier whereas opposition parties have fielded opposition leader in the House Khursheed Shah and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed as their candidates.
