Cases against Sharif family likely to be referred to NAB Rawalpindi

Summary NAB chairman also assured to fully act on the SC's directives.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhary has summoned important meeting on Monday after the announcement of Panamagate verdict.

Deputy chairman NAB, prosecutor general, director general operations and DG NAB Rawalpindi have also been called in the session to prepare strategy to implement the Supreme Court (SC) decision regarding filing case against Nawaz Sharif and his children.

The court also ordered to file reference against son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif, Capt (retd) Safdar.

Sources told that the participants would also consider forwarding the case to NAB Rawalpindi.

The approval for the decisions that will be taken during the session will be sought from executive board. NAB chairman also assured to fully act on the SC’s directives.

Nawaz Sharif’s resignation on Friday plunged the nuclear-armed nation into political turmoil after several years of relative stability. Sharif quit after he was disqualified by the Supreme Court over undeclared assets.

The court also ordered a criminal investigation into Sharif, 67, and his family.

Sharif has always denied any wrongdoing and his toppling has rekindled concerns about Pakistan’s democracy after a member of his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party hinted that elements of the powerful military were in some way involved.
