The hashtag calls on Pakistanis to share good things about their country with the world

(Web Desk) - As Pakistan prepares to celebrate its 70th year of independence this August, cricket sensation Shoaib Malik has initiated a movement to highlight the ‘great’ side of the country by creating a record for the longest twitter trend using #PakistanZindabad.

The movement has been launched by the cricketer in a bid to show the world the positive side of Pakistan.

Official website of Shoaib Malik states the reasons behind this movement.

“I will request everyone and remind myself, that we should always remain respectful to each other, in person or on social media, not just when we land at the Dubai airport” writes Malik in a post on his official website.

The campaign which is being run by Malik comes after a post on his official website talks about the inspiration behind the idea, which came up after a fellow cricketer expressed disappointment over the hate directed towards the country on social media.

“So here’s an idea; what if we all tweet once per day on something great about Pakistan, it could be a picture, or a quote, a moment, about history, achievements, records, a fact, anything that we love our country more for – using #PakistanZindabad – for at least 40 days. Why 40? the current record for the longest trend is 39 days,” reads Malik’s post.

Malik feels that the world needs to see the side of Pakistan we all love, not just the politics and terrorism but the positive side of the country, something which he says is the responsibility of the people. He explains, “We are Pakistan’s ambassador – to the people around, or on social media, print, or where ever we have influence, however far our voices reach. Influence and reach are powers that must be used responsibly".

Soon enough, hundreds of people rallied behind Malik and #PakistanZindabad started trending. By Tuesday evening, as many as 24, 000 tweets had been posted using the same hashtag.

Tweets praising the country’s achievements over the years flooded through people belonging to all walks of life, including politicians, artists and cricketers.

It’s currently one of the top trending hashtags on Twitter.
