The story was published in The News International on July 10, a day before JIT filed its report
(Web Desk) – Top officials of Jang media group were issued show-cause notices to on Monday by the apex court during hearing of Panamagate case and the following story is being branded by analysts as the cause for the notices.
The story that was filed by Ahmad Noorani titled "Panama JIT ‘doesn’t find PM guilty,’ but his sons", and was published on July 10 in The News International, a day before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) submitted its report in the top court, claimed that premier’s two sons were found guilty of corruption and not him.
“The JIT has cast some doubts about the prime minister in absence of any reasonable evidence but at no place has held the Prime Minister responsible of doing any illegal thing,” the story read.
The apex court had tasked the JIT to quiz the Sharif family on 13 questions that were compiled and held crucial to prove money trail of the funds used to purchase apartments in Mayfair of London.
The story stated: “Sources claim that the JIT failed to find out answers to four questions; question 5, 7, 8 and 9. Sharif family has given detailed answers to these questions. The JIT is not satisfied from answers but at the same time could not obtain any evidence to prove the answers given by the Sharif family as wrong.”
“Regarding last four questions; question 10, 11, 12 and 13, the JIT has mostly relied on the answers and evidences given by Sharifs. Sources say that JIT could not give any reasonably strong adverse finding against the Sharif family with regard to these last four questions.”
Ahmad Noorani and Editor-in-Chief of Jang, Mir Shakeelur Rahman were sought causes from within seven days for carrying the story. "This is direct contempt of court," Justice Ijazul Hassan said, adding that the case is being constantly misreported.
Hearing of the Panamagate case was adjourned until July 17.
