Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that peace can be established in Karachi within three months if allies recognize their enemy in the city. He said a special task force will be set up with representation of political parties to look into cases of extortion in Karachi and the task force will comprise police, rangers, FIA, ISI and two representatives each of PPP, MQM and ANP. Addressing a ceremony in Karachi chamber of commerce, Malik said that attempts were made to declare Pakistan a failed state. He said that banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and other such organizations were involved in target killings. He said Karachi was the economic hub of the country and it was duty of the government to protect the life and property of the business community here. Rehman Malik said that his Ministry will continue to extend a helping hand to the provincial government by sharing intelligence information etc. to control the law and order situation in the commercial hub. MQM leader Farooq Sattar said that situation in Karachi can be changed if the government follows the proposals of MQM.
