LAHORE (Dunya News)- The Auditor General of Pakistan, in a report, has unearthed scams worth billions in financial and management matters of Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), reported senior anchorperson and analyst Kamran Khan in his famous show Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath (DKKKS).

So far, no accountability watchdog has initiated action in this regard.

The report narrated that Punjab government had awarded contracts to some companies on basis of nepotism for removal of provincial capital’s garbage and these contracts were awarded at 34pc higher price. Most of contracts were awarded on recommendations of political personalities. The report further revealed that papers pertaining to agreements with foreign companies and funds were not available.

“Waste management’s record of transactions worth Rs30.12 billion is not available. Embezzlements of Rs40.50 million have surfaced in nine different cases while irregularities worth Rs76.96 billion have been notified in 67 other cases. LWMC has not returned amount of Rs10.15 billion to city government at the end of previous fiscal year and money has been withdrawn from company’s account without notifying it to relevant authority”, narrated report.

The report illustrates that inner structure of LWMC and its method of functioning is ambiguous. The report urges government to take stern action against officials involved.

The report was prepared in December-2016 while it was presented to Punjab Chief Secretary in January-2017.
