Dr Asim Hussain likely to get released today

The court had granted bail to Dr Asim Hussain on medical grounds over surety bonds of Rs25 lac each.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain is likely to get released today (Thursday) after Sindh High Court (SHC) approved his bail in two corruption references worth Rs 479 billion.

According to details, Dr Asim has submitted his passport in SHC.

The court had granted bail to Dr Asim Hussain on medical grounds over surety bonds of Rs25 lac each.

There is no more hurdle in his release as Dr. Asim has acquired bail in all cases he was facing in different court.

On August 2015, the former petroleum minister was detained during a raid at Higher Education Commission office in Clifton area over alleged embezzlement.

It is to be mentioned here that Dr Asim is facing different corruption references in accountability court while a terror case in anti-terrorism court (ATC).

One of the references alleges Dr Asim of Rs 462 billion graft while the other of Rs 17 billion. He is accused of concealing assets, granting illegal allotments, land grabbing, misuse of authority, fraud and giving illegal contracts during his tenure in Sui Southern Gas Pipelines Limited (SSGPL).

Besides SSGPL reference, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is pursuing money laundering case against the former federal minister.
