KESC sacked employees restored, says Raja Pervaiz

Federal Minister for Water and Power raja Pervaiz Ashraf has said that more than 4,000 Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) have been reinstated on their positions, Dunya News reported on Sunday. Addressing to media after a meeting held in Governor House Sindh, Raja said that all the sacked employees will join their duty from Sunday. He said the government was serious to resolve the issues because it was not a issue of 4,000 employees but the whole city was hitting. On Tuesday, KESC fired more than 4000 employees under voluntary separation scheme (VSS). According to KESC spokesman, administration has decided to shut non-management and non-technical departments in the company. These department included security guards, drivers, clerical staff, bill distributors and sentry workers among others. The company offered its 4500 employees VSS, whose date of validation expired on January 15. 375 employees accepted the offer while rest of the sacked employees will be paid all their statutory dues along with one month's salary.The sacked employees of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) were protesting demonstration from last 4 days. The demonstrators demanded immediate withdrawal of the forced decision.On Friday, President Asif Ali Zardari took a serious notice of the sacking of over 4000 employees of KESC and has constituted a committee to resolve the issue but the sacked employees have refused to end the protest till the restoration.
