First meeting of the judicial commission constituted under 19th Amendment, held under the chair of Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary to discussed the regularization of the additional judges of high courts, Dunya News reported on Saturday. The meeting was attended by four senior judges of the Supreme Court, Federal Law Minister, Attorney General, and members of the commission including a former judge and representative of Pakistan Bar Council.The commission recommended appointment of SHC Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani as Supreme Court judge and Justice Mushir Alam as the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court. The commission has recommended one year extension in 24 judges service and rejected the extension of 12 judges of LHC. The issue of additional judges in the SHC has been postponed till next meeting. The commission also reviewed issue of judges in Punjab. The recommendations of Judicial Commission will be forwarded to the parliamentary commission for approval.
