Summary
Federal Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan called on President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday night amid speculation he is among those being considered for the governorship of Punjab, following the assassination of Salman Taseer.Things are unclear about the issues that came under the discussion during the Bilawal House meeting.Addressing a news conference at PPPs media cell before the meeting, Mr Awan expressed the hope that the PML-N would reconsider the 72-hour ultimatum it had given to the government to agree to its reform agenda, because there was no room for ultimatums and deadlines in a democratic dispensation. He said that in democracy dialogue, and not ultimatums, could strengthen the system. He said he hopes Mian Nawaz Sharif will withdraw his ultimatum just like he reversed his decision to boycott elections in 2008.He praised the MQM and PML-Q for their positive and constructive roles during the current crisis. He said the governments policy of reconciliation was important and must be clearly understood. In an apparent reference to the patch-up reached between the PPP and MQM on Friday, the minister said that those predicting the fall of the government ware out of business now.
