Summary The petition alleged Chaudhry Nisar of using Nadra for political gains
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) has barred Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar from presiding over meetings of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) board while issued stay order against appointments of eight members.
The high court has barred Deputy Chairman of Nadra from performing duties.
Chief Justice (CJ) of LHC, Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard plea that alleged Nadra authorities to have appointed eight members in violation of merit as the vacancies were also not advertised in papers. Counsel for the petitioner maintained that Interior Minister could not chair meetings of the board under Nadra Ordinance.
He further said that Nadra is an independent and autonomous institution.
The petition alleged Chaudhry Nisar of using Nadra for political gains. According to the plea, Deputy Chairman of Nadra is running the institution unconstitutionally while officials are harassed under his charge.
Chief Justice of Lahore High Court said that there would be no compromise over institutions’ independence.
The hearing was adjourned for 15 days after staying eight appointments and barring Interior Minister from chairing any meeting.
