Hundreds of PPP supporters took to streets in different cities including Lahore, Sargodha, Multan, Toba Tek Singh, Sialkot, Okara, Rahimyar Khan, Gujranwala and Karachi after the assassination of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer by his own security guard in Islamabad on Tuesday evening. The protesters took to streets to block the traffic and burn tyres due to which shops, markets and shopping centers were closed down. The Punjab government has announced one-day holiday on Wednesday and federal government has announced three-day mourning on Governors murder. Different government and private institutes will remain closed tomorrow. PM Gilani appealed to PPP workers and supporters to remain calm and allow time for a proper investigation, announcing a state funeral for Taseer. According to Post Mortem report, Salman Taseer was struck with 27 bullets in his body but his heart remained saved. A bullet that hit his neck caused death, the report added. His death Governors dead body would be taken to Lahore for his funeral tomorrow at Governor House. Security has been put on high alert as massive protests can broke out tomorrow.
