Summary Fire extinguishers were not brought up to date for a year: report

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Report regarding fire in a privately-owned Regent Plaza Hotel has been presented to the Chief Minister (CM) of Sindh on Thursday which holds civil defence and the administration responsible for the blaze.

A blaze in the hotel on December 5 had claimed 11 lives prompting the government to summon a report in the issue.

Home Secretary has stated in the report that hotel staffers exited the building after fire erupted and they were not trained to counter any untoward accident. Officials of Civil Defence last surveyed the hotel in May 2015 and issued the required certificate at the time.

Fire extinguishers and other equipment needed to counter the blaze were not brought up to date since last year, the report states.
