Suicide or murder: Currency dealer Javed Khanani laid to rest
Khanani was director of Khanani & Kalia exchange group, died falling off under-construction building
KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Renowned currency dealer Javed Khanani on Sunday was laid to rest after dying by falling off an under-construction building in Karachi’s Muhammad Ali Society. Javed was the director of Khanani and Kaalia Exchange Group, reported Dunya News.
Police detained the watchman of the building and 13 labourers working there. The family believes that Khanani fell from the fourth floor of the building due to electric shock.
It is too early to say whether it was an accident or Khanani committed suicide. He was under investigation for money-laundering charges.
Khanani was immediately transferred to Liaquat National Hospital but the hospital officials told that he was already dead when brought to the hospital and blood was coming out of his ear, nose and eyes.
According to the statements by the labourers, they were doing their routine work when they came to know of Javed Khanani falling from the building. He was inspecting the building at the time. Police said that the family of the deceased was under shock and not in a position to get the statement recorded. However, the statements of the family-members and business partners will be recorded.
Gulshan SP said that the incident seemed to be that of suicide but only postmortem would clear the situation. According to the initial statement of the family, Javed Khanani fell due to electric shock.
Expanding the investigation, police has also decided to include Javed Khanani’s partner into the inquiry. The family-members have also been told to submit their mobile phones and other things.
