Summary Annual report by Auditor General of Pakistan reveals massive corruption in the program

KARACHI (DUnya News) – The drastic increase of hepatitis cases within SIndh is indeed an alarming situation as the onus of responsibility lie upon Sindh’s government to eradicate the disease out of the province.

However, as observed in most of the other departments and programs, corruption has turned out to be the worst nightmare here as well.

The annual report issued by the Auditor General of Pakistan has revealed another corruption story and which truly is a startling one.

The report reveals that the anti-hepatitis program started almost eight years ago has failed owing to heavy corruption and financial misappropriations.

Appointments against merit were reported on massive scale as high officials were appointed at the reference of a member of provincial assembly. Moreover, despite buying costly medicines were bought, however, couldn’t reach out to patients owing to expiry.

In addition, costly medicines were stolen and sold in black markets.

Reports also confirmed that the increase in number of hepatitis patients has been observed to be 7% annually. Despite the spending of 22 billion rupees through the anti-hepatitis program, no significant result has been issued.
