Steps being taken to appoint new chief fire officer: Deputy Mayor of Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News) – It has been revealed on Saturday by Dunya News that Fire Brigade department of Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) is being led by a junior official for at least a year as Supreme Court’s (SC) order in the matter was ignored.

Reportedly, order of the court regarding appointment of grade-18 official to lead the department was neglected and a grade-17 official, Tehseen Ahmad Siddique was given acting charge for a few days. However, it has been a year and the employee is still heading the department which now is in deplorable condition.

Deputy Mayor of Karachi, Arshad Vohra said that steps were being taken to appoint new chief fire officer and that appointment of grade-17 official was not in accordance with the law.

Fire fighting department has been criticised numerous times in the recent past for not being able to counter different untoward incidents owing to lack of functioning tenders and insufficient supply of water.
