JHELUM (Dunya News) – Returning Officer appointed for NA-63 by-election has recommended the Election Commission of Pakistan on Saturday to pursue contempt of court cases against Imran Khan and Hamza Shahbaz for unlawful participation in electioneering.
Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Member of National Assembly from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Hamza Shahbaz had addressed rallies in the constituency ahead of the elections by the end of last month, violating code of conduct determined by the commission.
A report compiled by the Returning Officer concerned stated that Shahbaz and Khan could not satisfy the authorities with the stance they maintained to justify their participation in the campaigns.
The officer has called the ECP for legal action against the two under the Article 204 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Reportedly, Imran Khan claimed that he did not address an election gathering but Ehtesaab (accountability) rally that he is pursuing against the government in different cities calling the people to question alleged wealth-stashing of the premier.
He further stated that the high court had permitted members of the assembly to participate in election rallies.
NA-63 National Assembly seat had fallen vacant after demise of Iqbal Mehdi Khan who was elected in General Elections 2013.
The election held on August 31 was won by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate, Matloob Mahdi Khan.
