Summary The court suspended ECP's notification and stopped Izhar Ahmed from taking oath
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday barred Muttahida Qaumi Momvement (MQM) member Izhar Ahmed Khan from taking oath as chairman of the municipal corporation in Karachi’s district west.
Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi announced the decision on a petition filed by Asif Khan of Karachi Ittehda Group.
During the case hearing, plaintiff’s lawyer Advocate Babar Awan argued that the returning officer rejected most of the votes cast in favour of his client and declared the MQM candidate as winner.
Even the Election Commission issued notification of MQM candidate’s victory, he said.
After hearing the arguments, the court suspended ECP’s notification and stopped Izhar Ahmed from taking oath.
The court has also issued notices to all the respondents to appear on September 19.
