Summary Arrest warrant was issued on Thursday in inspector's murder case

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Supreme Court has suspended non-bailable arrest warrant against fashion model and singer Ayyan Ali in customs inspector murder case, reported Friday.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali, within roughly an hour of filing the plea, formed a two-member bench headed by Justice Ijaz Afzal to hear the case.

Notices were issued to Interior Secretary and Station House Officer of the police station concerned among other parties in the murder case.

Farooq H Naik, counsel for the defense filed the plea in the Supreme Court earlier today.

Gulfam Butt, magistrate of a court in Rawalpindi had issued non-bailable arrest warrant of the fashion model on Thursday after she did not appear for a hearing of the murder case.

Inspector Ijaz Chaudhry allegedly died in Benazir Bhutto Hospital after he was shot in the leg. A case developed when late customs official’s wife pleaded in a court that he was murdered to ‘protect’ Ali in a money laundering case.

Ali was arrested in March 2015 at an airport in Islamabad as she tried to smuggle $506,800 in cash to United Arab Emirates.

The slain customs official was in-charge to seize the cash and submit the money in the State Bank.

According to late inspector’s wife, her husband was killed for refusing to succumb to the pressure.

The fashion model has been in a rough struggle with the federation and the customs court for over a year over her name being included in the Exit Control List on and off.

She was indicted in the case in November last year and the case is still under hearing but she was allowed to leave the country by the Supreme Court this year however, she had to turn back from the airport as she was not permitted to board.
