KP: Varsities shut to press Govt for Dr Ajmals recovery

All the educational institutions have been shut in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa for an indefinite period, while strikes and demonstrations are being held to press the government for an early recovery of abducted Vice Chancellor of Peshawar University Dr Ajmal Khan, Dunya News reported on Monday. The other day, the teachers unions convened an emergency meeting of all the VCs of varsities and decided to close down all the educational institutes till Ajmals safe and quick recovery besides staging demonstrations by the students and teachers in this regard. Today, all the faculty members and students of various varsities boycotted classes and took to roads wearing black bands and called for Ajmals recovery. President of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA) Dr Fida announced boycott by all the educational institutes till their demand is met. He also urged the private educational institutes of the province to follow suit. On Sept 7, Dr Ajmal Khan and his driver had been abducted while he was on his way to the university from his house. TTP claimed the responsibility.In his second video being released recently, Dr Ajmal appealed of the government to negotiate his release with the Taliban by November 20, otherwise they would kill him.
