Summary Abdullah will stay in Edhi's custody until further directives, states court

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Counsel for the Edhi Foundation has filed a reply in family court to the plea filed by Chaudhry Iqbal seeking custody of Abdullah, reported Saturday.

The hearing was adjourned until June 15 while Abdullah will stay in Edhis custody until further directives.

Counsel for Faisal Edhi, son of Mr Edhi who owns the welfare organisation maintained in the court that it was yet to be proved whether Iqbal was Abdullah’s father. The counsel requested the court to order submission of marriage certificate and divorce papers. He further urged the court to order DNA tests of both the alleged father and son.

The court was also requested to inquire Iqbal about evidence of sending part of livelihood to ex-wife Haleema during her stay in Karachi.

The court ordered maternal uncle of the child to prove his relation in order for the case to proceed. To which Abdullah’s uncle urged the court to record his mother and his statements. The judge said that the court does not want to record statement of Abdullah’s maternal grandmother but conduct identification process.

Iqbal’s counsel maintained that investigation officer has his client’s and murdered Haleema’s identity cards.

On the other hand, Rizwan’s wife who was copped soon after he fled has pleaded innocence in the court after she went on to say that her husband was in contact with different women.

Her counsel requested the court to acquit her for she was not involved in the crime. The court however, summoned police file in the case for any decision.

Abdullah was left with the foundation by a local named Rizwan who later fled but was caught using CCTV footage. He was alleged of murdering two-year-old Abdullah’s mother, Haleema in her rented apartment in Karachi.

Rizwan was arrested few days back and was presented before the court but he pleaded innocence.

According to Chaudhry Iqbal, he met Haleema ten years back in Rawalpindi and the ex-couple got married in Karachi. However, he doubted her fidelity about a year ago and divorced her.

Late Haleema rented a flat in Karachi with help of broker Rizwan while Iqbal used to live in Khanewal and has a step son.

Police and the welfare organization waited for over a week for someone to claim Abdullah and Iqbal did.
