Summary Asghar allegedly hit a security guard with his vehicle at a footpath
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Anti-terrorism court has accepted interim bail plea of member of National Assembly Rohail Asghar in hit-and-run case, reported Thursday.
Counsel for the defendant pleaded before Additional Sessions Judge Atta Rabbani that the section under which his client was held is bailable and thus his interim bail should be accepted.
Arguing against the stance, plaintiff’s counsel said that only impoverished people and those living below the poverty line are crushed to death under elites’ cars in this country. He said that the police did not include serious sections because the accused is an affluent man associated with the ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
Asghar allegedly hit a security guard with his vehicle at a footpath claiming his life last year. A case was lodged at Kohsar Police Station against the lawmaker by widow of the man, Shaheen Bibi.
On August 10, 2015, Bibi filed a plea in the additional court, stating that the accused was powerful which was why no action was being taken against him.
Judicial Magistrate Humayun Dilawar had issued arrest warrants of the accused and his driver last month after they failed to submit Rs 0.2 million worth of surety bonds.
The defendants’ lawyer explained that the bonds had to be submitted in cash for which the amount was yet to be withdrawn from a bank. He requested the court to grant time in the matter.
Why the amount was not withdrawn during the time given, the judge inquired however, the hearing was adjourned for an indefinite period of time.
