PEMRA chairman says any channel found violating regulations will be initially shut down for 1 month

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman Absar Alam has stated that television programs showing reenactment of crime scenes shall be banned from 1st of Ramzan, adding that action shall be taken against all channels that violate regulations, reported Dunya News on Friday.

While addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Absar Alam said that rape victims, murder or suicide scenes cannot be viewed on television from first of Ramzan. He stated that any television channel found violating the rules shall be initially shut down for a month, however if the channel repeats the offence then a case shall be forwarded to PEMRA authority to permanently shut it down.

PEMRA chairman said that television channels should keep into consideration the norms of the society while viewing certain programs.
